Apostilles for Documents Going to Spain

Visas
Spain’s non-lucrative, digital nomad, student and work visas commonly require an FBI background check with a federal apostille, and some ask for a state check as well. Consulates generally want the check issued within the last three to six months, so order it close to your appointment and allow 7–12 business days for the federal apostille. Family members may need apostilled birth and marriage certificates.
Teaching: Auxiliares de Conversación
The language assistant program typically asks for a background check, and some regions ask for a diploma. Check your placement letter and the consulate’s list, then book everything together.
Sworn Translation
Spanish authorities normally want a traducción jurada, by a sworn translator accredited by Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and some consulates accept other translations. The apostille is usually translated too. Confirm with the consulate handling your file; we can arrange a sworn translation ($185 per page).
Consulate
Most Central Coast residents fall under the consulate in Los Angeles, but districts vary, so check the consulate’s website for which office covers your county.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How recent does my FBI check need to be for Spain?
Usually issued within the last three to six months at the time of your appointment. The apostille does not reset that date.
Should the translation be done before or after the apostille?
After. The apostille itself usually needs translating too.
