Military Families Moving Abroad
A permanent change of station to Germany, Italy, Japan or elsewhere can involve documents that the host country wants apostilled: marriage certificates for a spouse’s residence permit, children’s birth certificates for local schools, or a power of attorney so someone back home can handle your affairs. Military paperwork such as a DD-214 is a federal document and gets a federal apostille from the U.S. Department of State.
Your installation’s legal assistance office can tell you what your orders require; we handle the apostilles.
Certified Copies in North County
The Clerk-Recorder’s Lompoc branch has closed. Lompoc residents get certified birth, death and marriage copies at the Santa Maria office, 511 East Lakeside Parkway, or at the Hall of Records in Santa Barbara, or order by mail with a notarized request. Court records come from the Superior Court division that heard the case, including the Lompoc division.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an apostille office in Lompoc?
No. California apostilles are issued only by the Secretary of State. We prepare and submit them from our Santa Barbara office, and you can mail or upload documents instead of coming in.
Can you apostille a DD-214?
A DD-214 is a federal record. A properly certified copy gets a federal apostille from the U.S. Department of State, which takes 7–12 business days. Call us to confirm which copy you have.
