Who in Canada Asks
Provincial registries, courts, notaries (especially in Quebec), banks and land title offices are the most common. Federal immigration applications often accept documents without an apostille, so check the specific checklist before paying for one.
Old Advice Is Out of Date
Many websites still describe the old consulate authentication process. It ended when Canada joined the Convention. A California apostille is now the whole process for California documents.
